APOD 2.3

This photo from the LCROSS mission shows the plume created by the crashing spacecraft. Using spectral analysis of the debris, it was found that there was approximately 20 gallons of water in the plume. This is important for future exploration of the moon. The description of the image mentions that there are several competing theories for how the water ended up the in the crater in the first place, which interested me because all I had heard was that the water was deposited there by comets over billions of years.
